2008 GIS and Remote Sensing Research Symposium

  Announcement and Call for Papers and Posters

The 2008 Virginia GIS and Remote Sensing Research Symposium will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 on Friday, April 4 th , 2008 in the Olin Preston room at the Holiday Inn in Blacksburg . In addition to providing a venue to share information about recent advances in geographic information systems and remote sensing applications in Virginia, this meeting will feature opportunities to interact with colleagues, students, and government and industry representatives from across the state who are interested in geospatial information technology.

Attendees will
•  Learn about new technologies and new applications of existing technologies,
•  Learn about new data sources and the availability of data in Virginia , and
•  Meet potential new employees/employers.

The meeting will focus on interaction among participants and the sharing of data, applications, and techniques. The symposium will include both presentation and poster sessions as well as a keynote speaker.

Oral and Poster Presentation Information

Submit proposals in electronic format (Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect) by February 22 nd , 2008 . Include a title, a maximum 250-word abstract, complete contact information for authors, and preference of oral or poster presentation. Authors will be notified of acceptance by March 3 rd , 2008. Accepted paper abstracts will be posted on the Virginia Tech Office of GIS and Remote Sensing web site ( http://www.ogis.org.vt.edu ). Please include <OGIS Symposium Abstract> in the subject line of your email.

We are encouraging posters and exhibits which will be on display in the break area. A student poster competition will be part of the conference with cash awards for the best entries. Indicate <student poster competition> on your abstract for consideration in the competition. Judging criteria will be distributed following your acceptance. If an exhibit requires electric power, please indicate this on the abstract. Poster display boards (36” h x 48” w) and easels will be provided at the symposium.
